Hotel search&listing
I worked on this project as a product designer, responsible for all stages - from conceptualization to handoff to development and design review of the implementation.
Problem
The user experienced difficulties browsing and selecting hotels in the search results of the hotel booking service. High drop-off rate from the search results page. The design was outdated, and the hotel card had become hard to scale.
Goal
Simplify the process of choosing accommodations so that users can easily find the most suitable and cost-effective hotel or room based on their preferences. Increase the number of bookings and reduce the resources spent on maintaining the search results page.
Metrics we influence
- ✦ reduce user drop-off from the search results page
- ✦ increase conversion to booking
What was done
- ✦ merged the map and list into a single page, which reduced technical support costs for the search results by 1.5x, since previously the development team maintained separate, independent pages for the list and the map
- ✦ kept only the most popular filters on the main page and moved the rest into a popup, based on analytics showing that 94% of users used only 2 to 5 filters
- ✦ redesigned the hotel card and added new details: accommodation type and price per night
- ✦ added the ability to go directly from the search results to the favorites section
Developed a scroll animation that optimizes the use of vertical space
Mobile web
Aligned the mobile web design with the native app experience, improving interaction with the map and filters.
Result
- ✦ сonversion to booking from the hotel listing increased by 6%
- ✦ reduced technical support costs for the search results page by 1.5x
- ✦ decreased drop-off from the search results page
- We continue to gather feedback from users and work on improvements. In the future, we plan to:
- ✦ complete development of the next iteration of the feature
- ✦ further improve map interactions
